Random Announcements. :)

Hello everyone!

Just a few random announcements & stuff to be taken note of:

1. PMS Pre-matching Sheet (DEADLINE: 18th Nov 2009, Wed)

For PMS students only. If you don't have a copy of this form, please approach Jade, or photocopy one from a friend. :) Please hand this in to either Jade or Korwoi by next Wednesday. We will calculate and release the results after summative--please look out in your emails/the blog for the results!

2. Convo Mag profile questionnaire (DEADLINE: 18th Nov 2009, Wed)

Everyone should have gotten a copy of this from an appointed person-in-charge (PIC) from their PBL groups! Don't forget to fill it out and return to your PIC, who will pass it back to Joel Yap, from the convo mag committee, by next week Wednesday (or whenever your PBL group next meets). If you don't have a copy, please approach Joel to get one or you'll be missing out in the convo mag profiles! :)

3. GP Posting (DEADLINE: 30th Nov 2009)

Dr Verna Lee's briefing ppt can be found here! Also, if you haven't gotten a copy of the GP posting formal letter, please approach either Korwoi or Jade to get one. Note that there is a deadline, which is after our summative.

4. Malaysian Studies: Mrs Phoong's email

Malaysian studies students only. As we all know, the last MS class was held just this past Thursday, the 12th of November! Mrs Phoong has kindly provided her email address for MS students to send any feedback, comments, complaints, criticisms... etc. Email her at keat_hoon@hotmail.com. :)

5. NKF Sec. 14 Dialysis Center Q&A

Someone asked Sr. Tee at the Sec. 14 NKF Dialysis center this question, and she has kindly replied. Since nobody claimed the message, here it is:

To: 2nd group IMU students - leader. Please forward this to the pretty girl who forward the question to me. i.e. the patient who had parathyroid gland implanted on his left arm.

One of the endocrine functions is Activation of Vit. D.
- to enhance the absorption of calcium from gut
- to inhibit excessive secretion of PTH directly

# if inadequate absorption of calcium from gut (hypocalcemia)
# if inadequate inhibition of PTH secretion by parathyroid gland will cause (secondary hyperparathyroidism)

Consequences:
The above eventually give rise to mobilisation of calcium from the bone to the blood. Therefore, bones become brittle, due to defect in bone mineralisation.
I hope this answer is clear.

S/N TEE S.B.

That's all for now, dear friends! :) Happy studying for the summative~ Keep it up!

Love,

Kor woi & Jade
