SEM 5 ACADEMIC CALENDAR *IMPT*

Dearest batchmates,

We received an email from Jodie, the Medical VP, about our Sem 5 calendar. Read the email below for more information.

As a result, we're setting up a poll on the blog to gather your opinions as to whether we should

i) Shorten Sem 4 holidays to get a longer Sem 5 study break, or
ii) Keep the timetable as scheduled and have a short Sem 5 study break (2 weeks)

PLEASE CAST YOUR VOTE BY 15th JULY (next Wednesday)!!! :)

Any questions? Please email SRC (Jodie)!

Thanks, and enjoy your holidays!

Love,
Jade & Korwoi

Hey guys,

How was exams? Sorry to spoil your happy holidays but I need your help. I received some complains through Zia about the Semester 5 calendar and how packed it was. From that I interpreted it that you all would like a longer study break for EOS 5, please correct me if I'm wrong. The complains were that 2 weeks of study break is too short for the amount we need to cover in EOS 5 (10 systems) and that Sem 5 is very hectic and so there should be longer break.

I've looked at your academic calendar, and unfortunately we can't change the dates for EOS 5 because of PMS transfering. So, the only way you all will be able to have a longer study break is by reducing your vacation in Semester 4.

I've spoken to Prof Yadav from Community Medicine and he said it is possible to push Community Medicine 1 week earlier, so that your term will start 1 week before CNY, then break for CNY and later continue 1 week of Comm Med again after CNY. However, I need to know if that is what the majority of your batch wants before we confirm this arrangement. I'll list down the few pros and cons of changing changing these dates:

Pros:
1) Semester 4 is relatively relaxed, Selectives and GP Postings will be almost like holidays so I think the break in between Sem 4 and 5 will be sufficient even if we reduce the holidays.
2) 2 weeks of study break is indeed too short to cover everything. Lengthening the study break in Sem 5 would reduce the stress later on.

Cons:
1) Be prepared to sacrifice your holidays
2) CNY holidays will be in between Comm Med so you won't be able to return to your hometown for that long for CNY.

Thanks a lot.

Regards,
Jodie.
