TAMAN MEGAH!!!! urgent!!! read me (",)

Hi guys!!! Me again and I’m featuring on your blog!!! Wow, im gonna be famous. Ok, this week I don’t have time to write much about Taman Megah coz im really busy so I will try write something up this weekend and I’m hoping that your batch mates that follow me there this weekend will help me out by telling you what it’ like, what is done there, etc.

Taman Megah comprises two kinds of people: orphans and the disabled. The orphan are mostly kids but the age range of the disabled is quite large as there are little babies and more mature individuals. Of the disabled, there are two types: the more able and the less able. The more able are more or less like you and me, they can move, play, talk, SING,etc and the only difference is they are mentally handicapped and/or physically handicapped. The less able are in another room coz they require physiotherapy everyday and I won’t tell you why…that will be your job to find out why. Also they require 24 hour attention as they cannot move or speak.

Ok, why do we go to Taman Megah???

Our task as future doctors is to provide care for everybody who requires it and make a difference in people’s lives. Taman Megah opens up your mind and questions your initiative, your capabilities and especially your ethics. Your initiative is tested as there are many ways to help out but can you think of any and can you actually implement them and also some people are not too sure how to work with the handicapped-this experience will definitely change all that; your capabilities of looking after people that cannot communicate well with you are tested (and your communication skills, believe it or not!) and you actually learn how to communicate with them and your ethics: you want to make a difference but is this difference positive or negative.

An example of this last bit is of this young girl who was born with no disabilities. She developed a tumour on her spinal cord but an operation to remove the tumour left her both mentally and physically handicapped....so what kind of a doctor are you lookin to be?????? Huh???????

Umm, I think that is all I can write at 2 in the morning. I’m sure all other questions can be directed to me personally. Or your batch mates that go down this weekend will be able to answer some of your questions (I hope!) Oh, before I forget…the question that is probably burning is what do we do when we go there...
  • We learn how to communicate with them(it’s not a mammoth task, it’s as easy as pie but the first few times you go there, you might be a little afraid coz u won’t know where you stand)
  • We alleviate the burden on the staff by helping out wherever possible, especially with the feeding
  • We learn how to do special feeding, etc!!!
  • We have fun!!!!!!! Jump around, scream, etc. This I the time when the inner child in you comes out!! Well mine does so I have lots of fun
Those that want to go this week Saturday:

If you stay in Vista we will be going by LRT. We leave at 0930 so we can be there by 1045. It’ not that far but u know how unreliable LRT can be (not to talk about SLOW!!!!).

If you’re a non-Vistarian…the address is….ok darn I cant find the add. Umm, what to do?? Just email me, k!!!!!

We have to all be there at 10.45 so we can start at 11 sharp. I will be meeting with those that are interested next week. So if you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me on veggie_baby@hotmail.com
