Book Voucher collection

Dear all,

IMU have collected the Book Voucher from the Ministry of Higher Education and we will be distributing the book voucher starting tomorrow,Thursday, 19 January 2012, 1200pm – 300pm (for our batch) outside the IMU gym (next to Student Services)

These are the following points that students need to be aware:

General Info

1. 1- Each students will be given 4 pieces of the book voucher (RM50 per piece)

2. 2- Students must ensure that the voucher has IMU stamp at the back of the voucher

Expiration

1. 1- The book voucher expires on the 31 March 2012

2. 2- If the voucher is not utilized by 31 March 2012, you must return the voucher back to Student Services Department (IMU will not give you cash instead, we will return the voucher to the Ministry)

Usage

1. 1- Students can use the voucher from any book store

2. 2- The voucher is for the purchase of academic books, academic magazine and stationaries as required by the university

3. 3- Students need to write their name and IC number on the book voucher

4. 4- The students must show their IC when purchasing

5. 5- If the value of the book exceed the amount of RM200, students need to pay the remaining balance; if the value of the book is below that the amount (i.e. 175) the seller will not give the remaining balance to the students

6. 6- The voucher cannot be change to cash

7. 7- Only for Malaysian student

Please be informed that as the Sem 7 and 9 Professional Exam is around the corner the SB library will extend its operation hours as follows:

Monday-Friday : 8.30am - 11.00pm
Saturday : 8.30am - 8.00pm
Sunday : 12.00pm - 6.00pm (normal hours)

Please spread this latest announcement to your friends. The library will start to extend its operation hours starting from 10/01/2012 until the exam period ends.

Kuala Pilah Library now open

I’m pleased to inform you that the Kuala Pilah library is now open for use. The library will start to operate starting from Monday next week, 24^th October 2011. The library opening hours are from 8.30 am until 5.30 pm, fromMonday to Thursday. Since not many students will be doing their posting at K.Pilah, at the moment the library will open based on the posting of the students as mentioned below:-.

Monday-Wednesday : O&G Posting (Sem. 7)

Wednesday-Thursday : Surgery & Pediatric Posting (Sem. 6)

Wednesday : Pediatric Posting (Sem. 7)

*(unless there is a special request from the lecturer to use the library outside the scheduled opening hours).

Hey my fellow Sem 8 peeps =D ,

Firstly, congratulations on making it to sem 8! We're going to 5th year people! :)

ok, down to business now. the AAD has sent me all the timetables (except for group A), downloadable here. So you can check it out/ do the necessary arrangements /preparations.

VERY IMPORTANT: (For those starting with Minor Postings (Group B)
You have something called BTLS(Basic Trauma Life Support) on the FIRST DAY of uni, the 5th of September. It is held in CR2 (5th floor). Attendence is COMPULSORY (AAD's orders). Further details in the downloadable file.

Another note, AAD will be closed the whole of next week in conjunction with the Hari Raya celebrations.
(hence you'll only be able to contact them today(26th August or after holidays which is the 5th of September if you have any matters to settle with them)

Having said that, enjoy the rest of your hols! And Selamat Hari Raya to all the Muslims of the batch who celebrate :)

Hello all in group B and C who will be in ward 1B tmr.

Sufi, Jasmine, Kokila and myself will be in labor room on Monday

So each one has to cover 6 beds. If some of ur beds nos are empty or dunt exist( ie 48, please clerk the patients in the aisle okies.

Tuesday onwards there will be 12 people in the ward

So each person clerks 4 beds.

2 bed nos from each person has been “given away” to the 4 who will be in labor room on Monday. So please take note of ur remaining bed nos and clerk okies?

Ethics Class this friday

Dear all,

Ethics class will start at 3PM this friday, not 2.30 PM. Sorry about the mistake in timing. Also please make sure you know what you are covering as some groups requested to change back to the original topics. Each topic will have a 20 minutes discussion with the whole batch after each case is presented.

Remember you should follow this guideline when approaching a case.

The Ethical Decision Making Model at a Glance

1. Identify the problem.
2. Apply the ACA Code of Ethics.
3. Determine the nature and dimensions of the dilemma.
4. Generate potential courses of action.
5. Consider the potential consequences of all options, choose a course of action.
6. Evaluate the selected course of action.
7. Implement the course of action.

1. Identify the Problem.
Gather as much information as you can that will illuminate the situation. In doing so, it is important to be as specific and objective as possible. Writing ideas on paper may help you gain clarity. Outline the facts, separating out innuendos, assumptions, hypotheses, or suspicions. There are several questions you can ask yourself: Is it an ethical, legal, professional, or clinical problem? Is it a combination of more than one of these? If a legal question exists, seek legal advice.

Other questions that it may be useful to ask yourself are: Is the issue related to me and what I am or am not doing? Is it related to a client and/or the client's significant others and what they are or are not doing? Is it related to the institution or agency and their policies and procedures? If the problem can be resolved by implementing a policy of an institution or agency, you can look to the agency's guidelines. It is good to remember that dilemmas you face are often complex, so a useful guideline is to examine the problem from several perspectives and avoid searching for a simplistic solution.

2. Apply the ACA Code of Ethics.
After you have clarified the problem, refer to the Code of Ethics (ACA, 2005) to see if the issue is addressed there. If there is an applicable standard or several standards and they are specific and clear, following the course of action indicated should lead to a resolution of the problem. To be able to apply the ethical standards, it is essential that you have read them carefully and that you understand their implications.

If the problem is more complex and a resolution does not seem apparent, then you probably have a true ethical dilemma and need to proceed with further steps in the ethical decision making process.

3. Determine the nature and dimensions of the dilemma.
There are several avenues to follow in order to ensure that you have examined the problem in all its various dimensions.
o Consider the moral principles of autonomy, nonmaleficence, beneficence, justice, and fidelity. Decide which principles apply to the specific situation, and determine which principle takes priority for you in this case.
In theory, each principle is of equal value, which means that it is your challenge to determine the priorities when two or more of them are in conflict.
o Review the relevant professional literature to ensure that you are using the most current professional thinking in reaching a decision.
o Consult with experienced professional colleagues and/or supervisors. As they review with you the information you have gathered, they may see other issues that are relevant or provide a perspective you have not considered. They may also be able to identify aspects of the dilemma that you are not viewing objectively.
o Consult your state or national professional associations to see if they can provide help with the dilemma.

4. Generate potential courses of action.
Brainstorm as many possible courses of action as possible. Be creative and consider all options. If possible, enlist the assistance of at least one colleague to help you generate options.

5. Consider the potential consequences of all options and determine a course of action.
Considering the information you have gathered and the priorities you have set, evaluate each option and assess the potential consequences for all the parties involved. Ponder the implications of each course of action for the client, for others who will be effected, and for yourself as a counselor. Eliminate the options that clearly do not give the desired results or cause even more problematic consequences. Review the remaining options to determine which option or combination of options best fits the situation and addresses the priorities you have identified.

6. Evaluate the selected course of action.
Review the selected course of action to see if it presents any new ethical considerations. Stadler (1986) suggests applying three simple tests to the selected course of action to ensure that it is appropriate. In applying the test of justice, assess your own sense of fairness by determining whether you would treat others the same in this situation. For the test of publicity, ask yourself whether you would want your behavior reported in the press. The test of universality asks you to assess whether you could recommend the same course of action to another counselor in the same situation.

If the course of action you have selected seems to present new ethical issues, then you'll need to go back to the beginning and reevaluate each step of the process. Perhaps you have chosen the wrong option or you might have identified the problem incorrectly.

If you can answer in the affirmative to each of the questions suggested by Stadler (thus passing the tests of justice, publicity, and universality) and you are satisfied that you have selected an appropriate course of action, then you are ready to move on to implementation.

7. Implement the course of action.
Taking the appropriate action in an ethical dilemma is often difficult. The final step involves strengthening your ego to allow you to carry out your plan. After implementing your course of action, it is good practice to follow up on the situation to assess whether your actions had the anticipated effect and consequences.

We will be having a batch ethics class on the 10th of June 2011 from 2.30 PM-3.30 PM. Location is to be confirmed.

It will be a case based discussion so please find example of cases in library books/Internet, preferably local cases, for us to discuss. A small PowerPoint presentation on the case itself can be made.
